Camp Comprehension: Animals is a pack to help young readers practice the important skill of close reading. This Common Core aligned pack includes 40 differentiated stories (20 animals – 2 levels for each animal). Two passages for the same animal will allow you to differentiate and meet the needs of the readers in your room!

Please note: Close Reading is a challenging skill for young students to master. I use these non-fiction passages WITH my students during small group reading time. These passages may be appropriate for higher-level 1st graders or independent second graders. Based on the needs of your own students, you may choose to use these high-interest passages whole group, small group or independently!
